Clayton, the seat of Barbour County, is in southeast Alabama in the Wiregrass

Highways 49, 51, 53, 79, 194 and 239, only 20 miles to Lake Eufaula, 45 to
Dothan and 66 southeast of Montgomery.
Barbour County was
created in 1832 from former Creek Indian territory and a portion of
Pike County. Its boundaries were altered in 1866 and 1868.
Barbour County is temperate but rather humid, with average rainfall of
about 68 inches per year.
Area facilities include golf courses, playgrounds, tennis courts,
public beaches, swimming pools, play fields, parks, camping areas,
recreational piers and marinas, recreational centers and more.
